That is a hard question to answer because there’s a lot at play. Sitting LeBron out would be the safest route. If we were to get injured during the next month and a half of basketball, it would be tragic. Those games are meaningless so to lose James in a meaningless game is inexcusable.
On the other hand, if James sits out, it will look bad. He is supposed to be the leader of the team and he cannot sit out while he is healthy. It looks bad. James likes to lead by example and that would tarnish his reputation. The young Lakers already dislike him and it may not even matter what Lebron does at this point.
The most important thing to consider here is Lebron’s’ legacy. He is on the verge of surpassing records held by Hall of Famers. I doubt James will pass up the opportunity to do that. James wants to go down as one of the greatest ever to play the game and he isn’t going to sit out just as a precaution.
LeBron himself said that unless he is injured, he isn’t sitting out. I doubt even the Lakers can change James’ mind. He doesn’t really take orders from anyone. Yes, he has a big ego but it has got him this far so he hasn’t been proven wrong yet. Maybe missing the playoffs will give some insight and let a coach coach him for once.
