The Milwaukee Bucks have defeated the Boston Celtics in Game 5 of the second round match-up in blowout fashion to head to the Eastern Conference Finals. Here are some of the takeaways from the series and what to expect in the next round.
First off, congrats to the Bucks for defeating the Celtics even though many people had the Celtics winning. I was not one of those people because the Celtics didn’t look that good in the regular season and had an easy playoff win against the Indiana Pacers. Numbers don’t lie and the Bucks have been the better team on paper all year.
The question that everyone should be asking is if Giannis Antetokounmpo can be guarded. He is too athletic, too strong, too long and easily the best athlete on the floor most of the time. He single-handedly willed his team to win four straight games and honestly, that is very impressive. In Game 1, the Bucks were blown out and Antetokounmpo says that he needs to just play harder. Won’t change the game-plan or anything and he was right. That’s how good he is. He can play better and that was the difference.
Let’s talk about the Celtics and their future. Kyrie Irving had a bad playoff series and is most likely out. Many rumors have him going to the Brooklyn Nets and that may be the best for both him and the Celtics. Boston can easily replace him and still be good next year. What they really need is a leader and unless that issue is solved, we will see more inconsistency from them.
The Celtics’ season was a failure. They didn’t even make it to the Eastern Conference Finals this year even though they had a better team than last year. That means change is coming. Irving will most likely be gone but I expect the Celtics to make a big trade and maybe land Anthony Davis. That would cheer up Celtics and give them something to look forward to.
Can the Bucks win their next playoff series? They will either play the Toronto Raptors of the Philadelphia 76ers. I think the Raptors may give them a tougher match-up but the Bucks can beat them. I don’t know if they will because the Bucks’ players have been inconsistent in the playoffs and they rely a lot of Antetokounmpo and that won’t always work. The 76ers are better match-up wise and the Bucks would edge them out in my opinion.
I predicted the Bucks to make it to the NBA Finals and they are one playoff series away from that. It would be fun to see it actually happen because Antetokounmpo is just fun to watch. He deserves the MVP award and an NBA Finals MVP to go along with it wouldn’t be bad.
