Raptors Defeat Warriors to Win First NBA Championship

The Toronto Raptors have done the impossible: win a championship for Canada. They defeated the Golden State Warriors in Game 6 114-110 to win the team’s first NBA Finals.

Kyle Lowry and Paskal Siakam led the team with 26 each and Kawhi Leonard and Fred VanVleet scored 22 each in Game 6. Klay Thompson scored a game-high 30 points but was injured in the third quarter after getting fouled on a fast-break dunk. After his injury, the Raptors played a box-in-one defense on Curry the rest of the game.

Leonard was named the Finals MVP and this is his second Finals MVP. This will elevate him to the discussion of the best player in the league discussion. Where do you put him on the list.

This is Leonard’s second championship, the first one he won with the San Antonio Spurs. His Spurs ended the Miami Heat’s quest for a three-peat and he did it once again against the Warriors. He will a free agent and that will be the story heading into free agency. Will he return to the Raptors or go elsewhere?

Golden State was already without Kevin Durant and were still hanging around but the injury to Thompson too much. This NBA Finals will be remembered by all the injuries the Warriors incurred. They still hang on and deserve a lot of credit for not quitting. Congrats to the Raptors and let’s see what happens in free agency.
