Lakers Reportedly Trade for Anthony Davis

The Los Angeles Lakers reportedly have traded for Anthony Davis and have done the impossible. The New Orleans Pelicans didn’t want to trade with the Lakers but the offer was so good that they had to agree.

The Lakers will trade Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart and three first round picks for Davis. That includes their 4th overall pick in the upcoming 2019 NBA Draft. That is a lot for Davis but it may change in the upcoming days as both teams are still negotiating. If that is all it takes to land Davis, I think it can count as a win for the Lakers.

Originally, the Pelicans wanted Kyle Kuzma to be included in the trade but the Lakers were not going to trade him. Instead, they will trade away future first round picks and if the Lakers are good, they won’t be worth much. If the Lakers can’t win, then this trade will be a complete failure because the lack of picks in the future will hinder any development.

It is hard to see the Lakers not be good with both LeBron James and Anthony Davis on the roster. It will be interesting to see how this new look team plays on the court. And they may still add another player before the season starts.

While most of the focus will be on the Lakers, the Pelicans will be setting the framework for their future with this trade. They will have great players that will be ready to win in a few years once Zion Williamson is drafted and has a few years under his belt. The Lakers may be scary now but the Pelicans may end up being the team that will be better in five years and that is how you win a championship in the NBA.
